What is the Borrego Triangle?
The Borrego Triangle is a “window area” of high strangeness located in and around southern California’s Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The location name was coined by David Flora and Derek Hayes in 2019 based on their research of paranormal activity there. It extends from around the town of Hemet across to the western edge of the Salton Sea, and down to the U.S.-Mexico border near Jacumba Hot Springs.
Activity within the triangle includes Sasquatch sightings, ghost stories, and UFO reports, among other things. The region was featured in a 1964 Desert Magazine article which told of a retired U.S. Marine who discovered large humanoid tracks in the sand while on a hike. Several UFO sightings by locals and visitors alike have happened in the area. And tales of ghostly figures and mysterious lights have floated around campfires since the 1800s.
Shadows in the Desert: High Strangeness in the Borrego Triangle features a variety of these phenomena, brought to life by the writing, narration, and boots-on-the-ground research of Derek Hayes and David Flora. Supplementing their storytelling are several interviews featuring triangle locals, experts weighing in on different topics, and animation which illustrates the amazing tales and legends. Shadows in the Desert is a feature-length documentary that shines a spotlight on weird stories from one of the weirdest places on Earth.
